The film follows young Emil who is sent to Berlin by his mother with money to give to his grandmother. However his money is stolen by a man on a train. Once in Berlin, Emil follows the thief and soon enlists the help of a gang of youngsters called ‘the detectives’ to help get his grandmother’s money back. Thrilling entertainment for children and adults alike, Emil and the Detectives was one of the first German sound films ever produced, and offers a fascinating glimpse of Berlin before Nazism and the Second World War.
